Acne
Vulgaris is the most common and widespread acne type
inflicting teenagers and adolescents. The occurrence of
acne vulgaris generally starts to diminish as a person
gets older but it has been found to occur even in people
in their 30s or early 40s. Before we start discussing
medical treatment for acne vulgaris let us first try to
understand more about acne vulgaris.
There
are basically two broad varieties of acne
vulgaris.
Inflammatory
- Inflammatory acne are mainly pimples and nodules and
cysts. These types of acne are painful and very large in
size and they have their roots deep in the skin. The
cysts are filled up with pus, and are not solid to
touch. This inflammatory acne causes really bad
scars.
Noninflammatory
- Noninflammatory acne can lead to white heads and black
heads. White heads are caused when the sebum gets
trapped and stays just below the skin. Black heads occur
when the sebum just breaks through the skin and turns
black because of exposure.
These
are the three basic reasons that lead to acne, only when
all three of them are present does an environment is
created that leads to flourish of acne bacteria that
ultimately lead to acne. So in order to completely and
permanently cure acne you need an approach that takes
care of these basic causes.
Acne
of any type whether they inflict teenagers or adults
basically has the same causes,
namely:
- Hormonal
Imbalance.
- Toxic
Buildup in the system.
- The genetic
sensitivity of the sebum glands being towards the
hormonal imbalance.
Now
that we know the types of acne vulgaris and the factors
that cause acne, let us learn about the medical
treatment for acne vulgaris.
Various
medical treatments for acne
vulgaris
Home
remedies: Mild cases of acne vulgaris can be treated
with home remedies. Using a paste of sandalwood and
rosewater proves very effective. Wash your face
regularly in the morning and before going to bed with
anti bacterial soap but one that doesn't cause too much
dryness.
Prescription
Medication: Mild to severe acne can be treated with
prescription drugs. Antibiotics help in reducing the
acne bacteria growth for the time being and do help in
reducing acne for some time, but in the long run they
can prove harmful.
Retinoids
or vitamin A medications open the clogged pores and thus
prove effective in treating black heads and white
heads.
There
are various other medical options available, such as,
hormonal
treatments, surgery etc. But you have to keep in mind
none of these medications address the actual underlying
factors that cause acne. So though you might get respite
for some time by using these medical
treatments for acne vulgaris you
won't be fully rid of acne. If you want a medical
treatment for acne vulgaris and want to get rid of it
completely and permanently, you should adopt the
holistic approach. The holistic approach addresses the
underlying causes and eliminates them completely thus
completely curing acne
vulgaris.
